The
material for these soapstone chess sets is mined in Tabaka, Kenya and polished to bring
out the natural beauty of the stone. Each piece is carved by hand using simple hand
tools. The board is made by inlaying thin layers of colored soapstone in the cream
colored board. None of the chess sets are painted. We have three designs of chess pieces available -- Maasai, where
most of the pieces depict the Maasai people, Animal, and Traditional English.
We have three sizes that we will sell on the web site, 14", 16", and 18".
The size indicates the size of the board. We do have some larger sizes but we
don't want to risk breaking them in shipping. But if you are visiting Florida, we
would love to show you the 20" and 24" sets. Or contact us for prices,
which will include an additional shipping charge.
Also available: chess pieces without the board.
Each piece is a sculpture in its own right.
