KHANYA CLOTHING has been manufacturing Traditional Xhosa Clothing in East London, South Africa for the past 40 years.  The Xhosa people are a black African tribe who have their  roots in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.   The name "Khanya" means ‘light’ in Xhosa.

In the last five years Khanya has moved into designing Modern Mbaco Clothes for Ladies, Gentlemen and Children.  Mbaco is descriptive of the traditional fabric used which is 100% cotton and comes in the three  main traditional colours: cream, red and orange, and now also in popular black, olive and lime green.   Most of the garments are finished with traditional braids in black with colourful beadwork.

Khanya seeks to promote the rich Eastern Cape culture through their clothing line combining Traditional with Modern and maintaining high standards and delivering a good service.

Seven women work for Khanya Clothing.   Nancy, Nora and Alice have been with the company for many years and are very skilled the the production of Traditional Xhosa Clothes.    The younger women, Zandile and Blossom have new fresh ideas and also produce high quality clothes.
