Business Development Manager 

We are looking for an ambitious and energetic Business Development Manager to help us expand our business customer base. You will be the front of the company and will have the dedication to create and apply effective sales and marketing strategies to create new business growth. Opportunities exist for upward promotion to a General Manager position.

The goal is to drive sustainable financial growth through boosting sales and forging strong relationships with existing and new clients.

Global Crafts is an importer of Fair Trade handcrafts from the Global South. Our Mission is to improve the lives of some of the people with whom we share this planet.  We do this by offering income-generating opportunities to craftspeople in developing countries by following fair trade practices including paying in advance at least the market price for items, ensuring that craftspeople receive payment, and ensuring that the craftspeople work in fair working conditions.

We are a small family-owned socially sustainable for-profit business with sales of just under $2 million based in the coastal communities of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater, Florida. The company currently offers products wholesale to retail stores, drop shipping for online retailers and manages a company-owned local retail store.  Global Crafts has always been focused on technology and web-based sales, which is reflected in current strategies and sales channels.

We are open to developing new strategies, sales channels and markets to find new sustainable growth.

The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the strategic development of the company, focusing on business growth, marketing and sales.  The candidate must share the values of the company and be excited by the mission.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop a growth strategy that benefits the company, and the artisans with whom we partner
  • Promote the company’s products and values at a national level
  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers, including national brands and catalog companies
  • Generate new sales to meet or exceed agreed targets.

Must have:

  • Significant experience in a decision-making capacity at a Fair Trade or socially-driven enterprise.
  • A related University level education
  • Willingness to be located in Central Florida or to travel to Central Florida on a periodic basis.
  • Proven Sales and New Business Development record
  • Proven Leadership Experience
  • Strategic Planning Experience
  • Excellent Communication Skills

  • Strong Customer Relationship Management
  • Knowledge of the Gift Industry
  • Proven Time Management
  • Ability to self-motivate with minimal supervision
  • Working language skills in Spanish and/or French a plus

We are a small company with sales of just under $2 million based in a small coastal community in central Florida.  The company currently offers wholesale to retail stores, drop shipping for online retailers, and manages a local retail store. Global Crafts has always been focused on technology and the web, which is reflected in our current strategies and channels. The cofounders are seeking to shift their personal focus and find an experienced person or persons to manage the day to day operation of the company.

It is important to state that Global Crafts is a small company and a successful candidate would be required to show flexibility and be willing to operate in a bootstrapped environment. A willingness to wear many hats is essential to success.

The timescale for this transition is very flexible. We are interested in hearing from you if you meet the following criteria:

  • Significant experience in a senior decision-making capacity at a Fair Trade or socially-driven enterprise
